Description

"Horse on the Road Again" by Kym Day is a quietly surreal, deeply beautiful oil on wood panel featuring a lone horse standing on the roof of a weathered building, set against a warm, dramatic sky that feels like the last light before something changes.

Kim Day is a realist painter rooted in the American South and West, and that duality is everywhere in this piece. The building is Georgia, warm and worn and deeply familiar. The horse is Texas, proud, still, and slightly impossible in the place it's chosen to stand. Together they create an image that feels both grounded in memory and lifted entirely out of it, the kind of dreamlike scene that draws you in with its technical mastery and keeps you there with its quiet mystery.

Trained at the Maryland Institute College of Art with an MFA in sculpture from Clemson University, Day brings a sculptor's understanding of form and weight to her painting. Every surface in "Horse on the Road Again" has presence, the rough wood of the building, the warm golden light on the horse's coat, the restless sky above. It is realism in service of something that feels, ultimately, like a dream.

Small in scale at 16" x 16" but enormous in presence, this is a painting that works in an intimate space like a study, a bedroom, a reading nook, where you can sit with it and let it reveal itself slowly. It will.
