We’re Ryan and Jacque Scheer, and Steamboat Springs has been part of our story for a long time. Ryan grew up here. We met here. And after years of living, working, making art, traveling, raising a family, and collecting the things and people that inspired us, we found ourselves looking at our hometown and imagining the kind of place we wanted to walk into.

So we built it.

The Westerly is our take on the modern Western mercantile—a shop filled with things that have a point of view. Clothes you’ll wear for years. Art that changes a room. Jewelry, objects, books, and goods made by people who care deeply about what they make.

We’ve never been interested in the West as a costume or a trend. To us, it’s bigger than that. It’s independence, craftsmanship, creativity, resourcefulness, beauty, humor, and a strong sense of place. It can be old and new at the same time.

That idea guides nearly everything we do.

Ryan comes to The Westerly as an artist and storyteller, with a lifelong connection to the landscapes, imagery, and mythology of the American West. Jacque brings an interior design background to the table. Her instinct for discovery, hospitality, merchandising, and creating spaces has turned The Westery into a space people want to spend time in. Somewhere between those two perspectives, The Westerly found its voice.

What began as a store has gradually become something larger: part shop, part gallery, part gathering place, and an ongoing excuse to work with artists, makers, designers, musicians, and people we find interesting.

We believe shopping can still be about discovery. That a store can have personality. That art doesn’t have to live in a white room. That good things carry the fingerprints of the people who made them. And that the West is not something preserved behind glass.

It’s still being made.

We call that The Modern West.

And The Westerly is our little corner of it.
